Running To See You
Springtime
Re-emerging from the catacombs of Winter in to the bright of Spring, and climbing out from each pitfall we’ve encountered. We are still a 3-piece outfit, though with different members. Currently, Messùr Shea Duffy is helping us out on the elec bass. That said, we’re looking for more layers! If you’re in the Montréal area and are downright in love with playing music, no matter what instrument we’d love for you to come jam with us someday. For serious, drop us one of those line-thingys.
` Chuck
Harder Done Than Said
Harder Done Than Said
The consensus goes as such: Saturday night’s alright for fighting. Unfortunately for me and Chuck, our jaws are made of glass. So instead we decided to fight the air with sound waves and capture the resulting carnage.
The evening started innocently enough as we gathered various objects around the house. Glasses, sticks, guitars, amplifiers, a tambourine, an umbrella, vocal chords, microphones and something I like to call the Tinkler. The idea was simple: could we let the music write itself? Could the air and atmosphere of an evening become musical?
I was hesitant to try. I was afraid. So I stared into the hauntingly beautiful blue eyes of my bearded musical cohort until it became clear that there was no way out. We were going to do this thing, and do this thing we did.
5 hours after Chuck began stomping the 4/4 on the hardwood floor, our tracks were laid. The living room was a mess, there was sweat pouring into my open wounds and at the bottom of the staircase lay a puddle of wires and electronic detritus. The house smelled of victory. It was complete.
That same evening we laid the groundwork for a new song entitled “Immune” which should be dropped into the infinite ocean of the internet like an under-sized lobster in Cape Breton within the next couple of weeks.
If We Blog it Will They Come?
Jacob here with ruminations on situations. I know we haven’t blogged much in the past (not at all actually), but I’m hoping this will become a weekly or bi-weekly thing to keep people informed and up to snuff on everything Swellship/my own ego. I will be updating this page with progress reports pertaining to music making, upcoming shows and general tomfoolery. Here goes.
First up, we have a show on April 16th. Oh my golly is this thing going to be amazing! We will be finger licking our noise makers of course, and so will many of our friends. Yes, we have friends.
Example:
Ptench will be playing (and they rock!).
This is our 3rd show with Ptench, I dig their aural assault so much I’d play with them a 4th time (coming June 6th, Cagibi). Also playing tunes is Bomb Camera, a wonderfully dovey electro-love duo that hangs notes in the air like curtains in the kitchen, lovely!
Speaking of love, we have a special guest that will be showing much love… to one lucky microphone. That’s right, we got Ghost Taco to perform at our show. What!?!?! You say? Yes, the rhythmic vagina music extra-ordinaire will be at our show playing for us her most intimate compositions. People attending should be prepared to open their ears and keep their mouths agape. Warning: There is a splash zone in effect for the first 3 rows.
Also performing is Marisa Hoicka. I’ve seen her break dance, fondle chairs and eat olives without the modern convenience of hands. What will she come up with next? I don’t know, but I will be there to find out.
